William Turner & Son is celebrating after reaching 50 years in business.
The manufacturer of school ties and bags was founded in 1969 by William Turner in his spare room, and joined soon after by son Keith. The Stockport-based company has grown from its humble beginnings and now employs 125 staff and has a turnover of £11 million.
The third generation family business supplies some of the world’s most highly esteemed names in the schoolwear, club and corporate markets. After reaching this momentous milestone William Turner now has big aspirations for the future as the business sets to work on its ambitious growth plans.
Daniel Turner, managing director, is thrilled to be at the helm of the family business his grandfather set-up at such an exciting time.
He said: “My family has proudly supplied ties to schoolwear retailers across the UK for the last 50 years and I am delighted to be continuing that tradition. The business has grown, and the team has increased, but the core family values of honesty, service and dedication remain. Building on our proud heritage, our plans for the future include launching a new eco and sustainable range of products to the schoolwear market, while also continuing to support and play a crucial part in developing and securing the future of British manufacturing.”
William Turner operates across three UK sites that comprise of two owned factories, in Lancashire and Yorkshire, warehouses and offices and a dedicated offshore workforce.
Mr Turner added: “We’re particularly proud that we’ve become a trusted partner to the schoolwear, sports clubs and corporate market. We’ve got a fantastic team of hardworking and dedicated staff, enjoy strong relationships with our customers and we’re all very much looking forward to writing the next chapter of the William Turner business story. I’m confident my grandfather would have been proud of what we’ve achieved.”
