Britain’s schoolchildren are getting taller, latest figures from Trutex show.
The producer of school uniforms has revealed that the demand for longer trousers and skirts has soared.
Some 13% of children now need long length trousers for their age compared with 11% just four years ago while over half of girls (54%) are wearing larger sized skirts, compared with 41% in 2013.
The number of boys fitting short length trousers has dropped by a quarter (from 31% to 23% while those wanting a medium size are up from 55% to 64%.
Girls wearing skirts of 16in in length or less have fallen by half from 15% to 7%.
Matthew Easter of Trutex said: “We are having to offer more longer sizes as schoolchildren seem to get taller by the year. What was the norm a decade ago is now considered small.
“At Trutex we still make sure that we have a wide range of clothing to fit all sizes.”
Health studies reveal how youngsters are growing faster now than at any time. An 11-year-old girl is 1in taller in height and is 2.5in bigger in the chest than 20 years ago while an 11-year-old boy is 2in taller and almost four inches broader in the chest.
Trutex offers a range of school uniform products, from blazers, shirts and trousers, to PE kits and pinafores. Prince George famously wore a Trutex shirt last year for his first day at school.
