The New Zealand Judo team encountered a dilemma at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 earlier in the year when it was discovered they had brought with them judo gowns with the Adidas logo on them.
This branding was not allowed in the Commonwealth Games this year and with the games due to start within a few days the team needed replacement gowns urgently.
ETC Supplies were recommended to the New Zealand team and with the company based only 200m away from the athlete’s village it was easily accessible to the team.
And so the New Zealand judo team officials visited the premises with a black bag full of gowns that they wanted help with.
The team explained that they needed the Adidas logo covered. Sewing a new logo on top was not an option due to the thickness of the gown and any sewn patch would have to be oversized to make it look neat.
Another issue was that the replacement patch would need to be able to be removed after the games so the gowns could be used in other events with the Adidas logo showing clearly.
Problem solved
After analysing the problems ETC Supplies came up with a solution.
ETC Supplies suggested taking some printed fabric that the New Zealand team had with them and use this to make up a new patch. The new patch would be covered with Plasti-Fuse (double sided fusible film), cut to size and heat pressed over the Adidas logo.
Then after the Glasgow games this patch was removed using ETC Supplies’ special badge remover chemical spray.
The New Zealand team were over the moon that a solution had been found. The gowns were left with ETC Supplies and the work was done the same day. The New Zealand officials arrived early the next day to collect the gowns and they were very satisfied with the end result.
The Judo team ended the games with two silver and three bronze medals.
