Achieve faster set-up times with a zero-off system

A close-up of the zero-off micro system

MHM has long been one of the UK’s leading suppliers of automatic presses and has been at the forefront of the market for the past three decades. The company’s formidable line-up of equipment features some of the most technically advanced machinery available, built to provide years of trouble free service with high-speed performance and reliability second to none.

Recently with the growth of CTS (computer to screen) systems, more printers are moving away from film and achieving improved quality combined with a reduction in set-up times. To accommodate CTS, all MHM’s presses come standard with the zero-off system which allows the operator to zero all the print heads on the press in a matter of seconds, making set-ups even faster.

John Potter says: “There is no other system in the industry which comes close to the fast set-up times of MHM presses and there is no need to remove any pallets or use any special pallets to register the screens. Another unique feature is that the operator does not need to unlock the screens in order to move them using the micros should he need to make any subsequent final adjustments.

“On many presses, as soon as you flick the screen locks the screen can move very slightly which can prove extremely frustrating during set-up. This is an issue on virtually all modern-day auto-presses except for MHM. Our presses have always been renowned for faster set-ups and time-saving features like these raise the bar even higher.”

If you’re comparing new presses, a couple of good tests are to simply load a screen, check how well the press holds it and then start moving the micros. Do you need to unlock the screen to move it? Does it move when you lock it? If you turn the micros in one direction and then turn them in the other direction do they jump? (This is called thread backlash and again it hinders you instead of helping you during set-up. All MHM presses have zero backlash micros). Set-up and job-changeover are probably the two most important ways to judge how fast a press is, not just the index speed. Although all our presses have high speed indexing, all these other small features are massively important in today’s demanding climate.

With MHM these features are standard – without them you’d be missing a trick.
