Clitheroe-based schoolwear manufacturer Trutex has launched an anti-bullying initiative for schools alongside The Diana Award and ex Blue Peter presenter and broadcaster Katy Hill.

Trutex is working with schools across the UK to raise awareness of the complex issues at the heart of bullying. The initiative encourages children to become anti-bullying ambassadors for their school and offers them unique training to tackle and approach to bullying.

Earlier this month over 100 children and staff members from Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire met at a Rochdale school to discuss bullying and receive the training from The Diana Award team to become anti-bullying ambassadors for their school. The Diana Award is a charity legacy to Princess Diana’s belief that young people have the power to change their world and the partnership represents a significant commitment to helping the thousands of young people who access The Diana Award’s programmes every year.

As part of the partnership Trutex is also launching a hashtag #bTRU2u, supported by a dedicated web-site www.trutexbtru2u.co.uk to carry more information on the subject which will also be promoted by the company’s stockists across the UK.

Katy Hill, Trutex parent ambassador, gave an inspiring speech to the students, encouraging them to never be scared to be themselves.

She said: “As a parent I think today’s initiatives are essential in raising awareness around the subject of bullying. The work that The Diana Award is doing is ground breaking in terms of raising this issue with both pupils and teachers. I can’t think of another programme that empowers in such a positive way and addresses this problem that affects nearly one in three children in the UK.”

Matthew Easter, managing director of Trutex said: “We’ve been making school uniforms for over 150 years and are very aware of the negative impact bullying can have.  It is for this reason that we have decided to partner with The Diana Award and their significant commitment to helping students through training, mentoring and support programmes. Our newly launched anti-bullying initiative #bTRU2u will help further support anti-bullying in our schools and communities.”
