SISS (Screen Inks & Solvent Supplies) is one of the largest independent suppliers to the screen industry in the UK and Ireland.

This long established company is a UK distributor for Fuji film Sericol, MagnaColours, Chromaline emulsions and capillary films, Sun Chemical, Nazdar, Union and Rutland, the list goes on and on. Whether you need a textile ink for cotton shoppers, or a two pack ink for aerosols, SISS can help.

SISS also manufactures and blends its own screen cleaning chemicals, for every aspect of the screen area. Whether you have automatic screen cleaning machines, or clean manually, SISS can offer a solution.

The best thing about us is us

Tony Gravell, sales director of SISS speaks out about the screen printing industry…

Every month I read the trade magazines or the online updates, or visit the trade shows, and see all the new DTG machines, and the ongoing progression on latex printers or sublimation printers, and it’s true that they are all extremely important to the progression of our industry, no matter what you produce be it, textiles, POS, transfers, PCBs, promotional goods etc, indeed we sell them ourselves. But the screen printing business is still going strong!

But the one thing that stands out in my conversations with customers every day, or talking to the eight technical reps we have up and down the country, is the lack of investment of time for  staff technical knowledge in the screen print area, the lack of specialised knowledge on stencil making, the lack of knowledge on different inks, why some emulsions work better than others, what RZ value is, why degreasing is important, why stencil preparation is so important to prevent down time on the print floor, what are the advantages of water based inks, why correct ink curing temperatures are important, I can go on and on. There are some very technically able people within print companies who have an amazing depth of knowledge, but keeping that knowledge updated is extremely important.

There is no substitute for hands on training, whether that be onsite, looking at all aspects of the way customers produce their work, or offsite, in order to take those same people out of the work environment to concentrate the mind, indeed we often take customers over to MagnaColours in Barnsley, to look at all aspects of water-based inks and the developments that have been made.

It still surprises me how many customers spend little or no time in keeping staff updated with training, or in new product developments in all areas, and really invest in their people, I know it’s important to keep production going and make sure the orders are delivered in time, but if the people producing the work understand the process better, then the finished article can only get better too.

Everyone involved in our company has extensive experience within the screen industry, it’s scary how much experience we have. Whether you need to look at improving the quality of your stencils, or improve the durability or cleanliness of your screens, or the quality of your colour matching, the definition of your print, looking at new developments in inks, looking to automate your process or looking for new equipment, come and speak to us.
