Curing direct to garment prints is a heat process that carries specific parameters, the normal curing time for a garment printed with white and CMYK ink should be around 2 to 3 minutes at 165c. Veer off from this and you will certainly witness less durability in the wash.
Resolute DTG Ltd supplies some of the largest drop shipping direct to garment printing companies in Europe. They demand speed and quality, not only for the prints but in the curing too.
We were constantly being asked: ‘Why can’t we cure these prints faster?’.
The answer is simple: ‘No one has developed a curing process specifically for direct to garment textile ink; we all use heat presses as they are normally the only affordable solution available’.
A standard dryer designed for screen printing cannot cure the ink properly making for poor durability and a crusty feel to the print. One of the main issues is the prints cannot be simply cured from the top; the heat must migrate through the image and shirt to penetrate the pre-treatment ingredients in order to complete the process, regardless of ink manufacturer or type of printer.
With the obvious demand in mind we approached a manufacturer and developed the specification for a dryer that could not only cure better but also increase the curing capacity to less than one minute per dark garment printed with white and CMYK ink.
Dual temperatures and forced air are needed for this to happen. We have succeeded in this and now launch a dryer that is still affordable and economical to run for medium to large direct to garment printers.
In early April the R-Heat 440F was born
Soon after Printwear and Promotion Live 2012 we started testing the newly developed dryer and witnessed results that far exceeded our expectations.
Not only is the new dryer much, faster curing a shirt every 45 seconds, depending on the fabric, but the durability in the wash has also been increased.
Wash testing the samples ten times, 20 shirts at a time, we found literally no change from the original garment to the tenth wash.
Available for use with any direct to garment configuration the R-Heat 440F is literally a breath of fresh air for the DTG industry. With a price tag of less than £3,000 in the UK, it is a high speed solution set to change the way production DTG printing is cured.
