New Eco-Uniform is an industry first for David Luke
Published:  15 November, 2010

Schoolwear supplier David Luke are doing their bit to save the planet with their new Eco-Uniform school jackets for boys and girls. Hailed as a schoolwear first, the new jackets are made from 100% recycled, non-biodegradable plastic from drinking bottles, which would otherwise go to landfill. Compared to an equal quantity of traditionally manufactured oil-based fabric, the 100% recycled de/repolymerized material used by DavidLuke requires 84% less energy to produce it.

The jackets are a natural fit for David Luke, who say that fair trade, ethical business practices and environmental issues have always been at the forefront of what they do.

On display for the first time at this year’s Schoolwear Show, David Luke say it takes around 16 plastic bottles to create enough recycled fabric to make one Eco-Uniform jacket.

Both the boys’ and girls’ jackets are available from stock in black and navy.

The boys’ model features jet and flap hip pockets, two inside pockets (one clothe jetted, one zip; a contrast lining and two button detail. Sizes are 26 to 52 chest.

The girls’ jacket has fitted styling with a shaped lapel and front topstitching.

It has two inside pockets, one cloth jetted, one zip, along with jetted hip pockets and a contrast lining. Girls’ sizes are 26 to 48.

Both jackets have embroidery access.

David Luke’s stand at he Schoolwear Show had a “People and The Environment” theme.

They say that there has been a fantastic response to the new garments which confirms that there is an overwhelming interest from both retailers and schools in the area of Eco-uniform and particularly Fairtrade Cotton school uniform.
