“Schools need to know that the garments they select will perform well and it is equally crucial that the same styles, in the same colours and same sizes, will be available year-on-year,” comments Andrea Charteris, PenCarrie’s customer services manager.
“All the schoolwear we stock has this consistency and all the clothing is of excellent quality, with the various brands subjecting each style to rigorous testing,” she adds. Schoolwear styles available from PenCarrie include polos and sweats, the all-time favourites, plus outdoor fleeces and jackets, teamwear, and accessories such as bags. Core uniform styles come from the much-loved brands of Jerzees Schoolgear, Fruit of the Loom, Gildan, Kustom Kit Juniors and Result. Active leisurewear styles, ideal for extra-curricular outings and clubs, include hoodies from AWDis and, for girls, dance pants and tops from Skinni Minni.
Teamwear is more than adequately covered by Tombo, Finden+Hales, Kustom Kit Gamegear and Front Row. Bags, including book bags, backpacks, sports holdalls and gymsacs, come from the specialist brands of BagBase and Quadra.
“Schools like the extra exposure bags give to the school name and of course they provide valuable add-on sales for decorators,” explains Andrea.
“Sweatshirts are among the most popular purchases by schools,” she continues. PenCarrie offers all the options including raglan, drop shoulder and v neck styles as core uniform items. Some schools prefer a cardigan and Jerzees Schoolgear’s 273B is a neat design and comes in nine colours; a sweat jacket such as Fruit of the Loom’s SS92B is a more fashion-oriented alternative.
Polo shirts are also firm favourites with schools as they give greater freedom of movement than more formal shirts. Long sleeve and short sleeve polo shirt styles cater for all seasons. Pique polo shirts, capable of looking smart all day, are often a school’s first choice. Among PenCarrie’s top selling pique polo shirts for kids are Jerzees Schoolgear’s 539B and Fruit of the Loom’s SS11B.
“We’re seeing more and more schools opting for branded outerwear too, including fleece, soft shell and other warm and weatherproof jackets,” notes Andrea. New from Regatta this year is the RG245 Kids Uproar Soft Shell Jacket for ages 3-12 years. Result’s RS121B and Jerzees Schoolgear’s 140B are also popular soft shell choices. Adult versions for older/taller pupils and for staff, are also available.
“Teamwear is very important to schools; it not only projects a good image for the school, it generates huge pride among the kids and inspires their performance,” says Andrea.
With winter approaching, Canterbury’s new CN60B Kids Long Sleeve Cold Base Layer, or Tombo’s equivalent TL70B, could be worth highlighting as an extra. Both will keep kids warm during exercise while also preventing sweating which can lead to chills.
