According to team member, Gill Russell – Regatta’s PR and marketing manager: “It was a miserable start to the day on Saturday at 5am (dark with head torches), with constant rain all the way up Scafell and Scafell Pike, but it certainly tested our Regatta gear out!

“Nine and a half hours after we set off, we arrived back at the cars, wet and probably not looking forward to the rest of the day, but the cups of hot tea and coffee made by our support team and their smiling faces and words of encouragement helped us all.”

Gill continues: “A change into dry clothes and refuelling and we were off to our next mountain, Helvellyn. This time we had sunshine and could admire the views around. In just three hours, England's third highest mountain had been conquered and was behind us.

“We quickly moved onto our fourth mountain, Skiddaw. With tired legs and blistered feet, we set off. After about an hour we lost daylight and had to use torches again to find our way, but it wasn’t long before we reached the summit of our fourth and final mountain of the day. Seventeen and a quarter hours after we set of from Seathwaite, we were back at the cars with our four peaks challenge completed.”

Adds Gill: “We are indebted to our support team and our Mountain guides, Bernie and Anja (and their dog Sky) who without these guys we would not have been able to complete this Challenge.”

Money raised will be donated to The Rocking Horse Appeal which helps make life better for very sick children in hospitals and care centres in Sussex and Surrey, The Langa Township Appeal in Cape Town and to the mountain rescue service in the Lake District.
