Clean screens, save money and help the environment
Published:  23 September, 2010

Using traditional methods, it can take up to an hour and a half to wash out five screens and have them ready for production. But what if that could be reduced by 70 per cent? According to Dave Renton, of NESMS, all modern screen print shops should consider the Metro Eco Friendly Dip Tank for two key reasons – money and the environment.

Firstly you don’t work with one screen at a time. Two screens can be placed into the Metro tank which contains Metro Easiway combined concentrated screen wash and stencil strip which has been diluted up to 5 to 1 with water.

After two to three minutes, one screen is taken out and, after allowing the excess fluid to drain back into the tank, is taken to the wash out booth. This screen is replaced in the tank with the next one to be cleaned. The screen that was taken to the wash out booth is then power-washed on both sides.

Next, 701 degreaser and ghost remover is sprayed onto the screen and agitated with a soft brush and then power-washed off of the screen. Following a light spray of water to wet the mesh the screen can then be dried and put back into production.

The average time for this operation is about five minutes  – and remember that the next two screens have already been soaking in the tank. Using the standard method it takes around an hour and 25 minutes to clean five screens, whereas the Metro method takes just 25 minutes, saving you an hour.

Loss of cleaning fluids with the standard system is total with all of the liquid disappearing down the drain (even though it shouldn’t) but with the Metro, most of it drains back into the tank.

The Metro Tank gives screen printers a way of saving time and money while helping the environment. The fluids used in and with the tank are all bio-degradable.

NESMS can also help you be more environmentally aware with screen process waste systems. Various models are available, all of them helping to reduce the amount of petroleum distillates that make their way into the public sewers while, at the same time, creating a screenwash re-circulation system.
