Our regular review of what's new on the machinery front takes a look at direct to garment printing and, surprisingly, label printing.
..
Two new machines have appeared on the scene for this style of printing and both come from M&R – a name more commonly associated with screen printing.
The i-Dot 4100 is a printer that, according to the manufacturer can print on 100% cotton, 50/50 blend and even some polyester fabrics. It handles all fabric colours including black which in this market has now become a must. The 4100 benefits from M&R’s exclusive Absolute Position Technology (APT), i-Colour RIP software and M&R’s laser guided substrate placement.
When printing, the Black Colour Mode (BCM) and Economy Colour Mode (ECM) work together to optimise the level of ink usage especially when printing onto black making the machine an economical unit to use.
According to the company, the resulting print is softer and more breathable and much closer to water-based screen printing. The company also supplies the i-Dot 2100, which is similar to the 4100 except that it does not print on black.
The second machine from M&R is not actually a printer but an automated pre-treatment unit. The i-Prep is a self-contained unit that automatically applies pre-treat to black shirts making them ready for printing.
Good pre-treating is essential to producing high quality prints and this level of automation improves consistency. The manufacturers boast full coverage in seven to 10 seconds with the dosage controlled by simple air pressure and pallet speed adjustments.
The i-Prep includes separate chambers for pre-treat and water enabling the whole system to be cleaned at the turn of a valve. The unit is constructed of powder coated food grade stainless steel.
As far as we know this is only the second unit of its type on the market with DTG’s PreJet being the other one.

Revolutionary label printers open up the market
This is not something that would normally be discussed on these pages but the introduction of the very competitively priced Rapid X1 and X2 machines has put label printing on everyone’s lips.
Traditionally this type of type printing was the reserve of specialist companies and this was based mainly on the high level of investment required but the X1 and X2 machines have opened up this market to a greater number of industries.
Effectively Rapid has made printing small numbers of full colour labels an economic viability and much of this is down to the revolutionary print head developed by Memjet.
By using this head the machines can produce labels at the astonishing rate of 18 metres per minute a level so amazing that, when watching them, it is easy to think that the labels are pre-printed.
These machines open up the small order market for labels just like the single head machine did for embroidery and may prove to be of interest for those looking to add an additional income stream to their business.
We are sure you will be reading more about these machines but if you can’t wait then contact Impression Technology Europe on 01623 861173 or e-mail them atinfo@impressiontechnologyeurope.com You can also get more info from their web site atwww.impressiontechnologyeurope.com
Remember, if you have any new developments or products please send us details with suitable images and we will endeavour to include them in future editions. We want to talk about your products but we can’t do that if you don’t supply us with the info. Email editor Debbie Eales at the following address:deales@datateam.co.uk
