“Urban wear is a decorator’s dream,” comments Andrea Charteris, PenCarrie’s customer services manager. “Fans of urban wear love new styles and all forms of decoration on clothing; it’s how they demonstrate originality which is all-important to them,” she explains.
Hoodies, tees with a difference, slouchy sweats and jog pants are all part of the urban wear scene and come from youth oriented, fashion influenced brands such as Skinnifit, Wombat and AWDis. New styles from Beechfield Headgear also add to ‘the look’ while providing valuable add-on sales for decorators.
PenCarrie also stocks the new ‘Gem Tec’ materials from Xpres which provide a simple way of embellishing garments with rhinestones without any major investment in equipment. “Take clothing styles that are slightly quirky in their own right. Then add wacky statements or designs in rhinestones across the chest; or use glitter, wild animal, graffiti and camouflage films to create clothing with the edgy individuality that the youth sector loves,” says Andrea.
She goes on to highlight a number of the urban clothing styles newly available for 2010. These include Skinnifit’s SK57 Pull On Beach Hoodie, SK104 Modern Essential Tank Dress and SK255 BaggiFit T-Shirt, all ideal choices for women. Skinnifitmen has also introduced two new t-shirt styles for men which are perfect urban wear: SF103 is sleeveless and SF251 has long sleeves and a hood.
New jog pants from AWDis, teamed with the brand’s hoodies and zoodies, create exactly the right image. The new JH070 Campus Sweat Pants and JH075 Girlie Jog Pants look good with any of the AWDis sweat tops (all of which are stocked by PenCarrie). Hooded sweats from many other brands, including Fruit of the Loom, Gildan, Skinnifit, Jerzees Colours, Hanes, Henbury, Wombat and organic clothing brand Okarma are also appropriate.
Wombat clothing is the epitome of urban wear: an amalgam of raw edged, pigment dyed, vintage washed and distressed casual styles. “This is urban wear that makes a statement, and is ideal for independent outlets keen to create their own cult clothing range,” says Andrea.
Headwear is also a crucial element of urban fashion and new styles from Beechfield are (as ever) right on trend. They include BB665 Rapper Cap, BB637 Plaid Army Cap, BB620 Herringbone Gatsby, BB461 Slouch Beanie and BB920, a SupraFleece version of the hugely successful Morf which can be worn as a scarf or bandana or even as a wristband.
