BAGBASE
New retro bag offers old school appeal
Published:  30 March, 2010

BagBase has developed a range of fashionable and funky bag designs to meet the growing demand for more street-styled promotional clothing.

Bags such as the BG14 Retro Shoulder Bag and BG16 Retro Flight Bag hark back to iconic styles from the 60s and 70s, with ‘old-school’ styling that appeals directly to discriminating young urbanites.

In 2010, the two bags are joined by a third ‘Retro’ style – the BG26 Retro Day Bag. A big brother to the BG16, the BG26 is made from 600D polyester and shares the B16’s ‘square’ form, contrast piping detail and adjustable shoulder strap with contrast colour buckle.

The main difference between the two bags is their size and carrying capacity. The slim-line BG16 measures 30 x 28 x 10 cm and has a 7-litre capacity; the BG26 measures 29 cm x 33 cm x 14 cm and has a 10-litre capacity.

The new bag also adds a larger front zippered pocket for easily accessible extra stowage space. The pocket is simple to decorate, using direct print, transfers and embroidery, and the polyester fabric is compatible with the appropriate inks from the leading screen printing inks manufacturers.

Colour is key to the BagBase product offering. This year, the brand has added four new colourways to the BG14’s palette: bright royal/white, French navy/classic red, pure green/white, and white/black. The BG16 welcomes two new colours… pure green/white and white/classic red. The new BG26 is available in black/white or white/black.

“Getting the colours right on urban products is critical, as end users are highly knowledgeable and discerning over which colours are ‘in’,” says BagBase’s Catherine Hardy. You can see from our new colourways that white has emerged as a must-have fashion colour for bags in 2010. We’ve also added pure green; when partnered with white trim, this colour combination recalls the sporty colourways used by the iconic sports fashion wear brands of the 70s – for example, adidas and its famous triple stripe T shirts and Stan Smith trainers.

"Similarly, new BG16 colourway, white/Classic Red is, as the name suggests, a classic combination for sporty street wear that remains highly credible with today’s younger, more fashion-aware consumers.”
