"First, it must provide appropriate protection for workers and perform well in what are often tough environments. Equally importantly, the clothing has to contribute to the company image and only good quality clothing will maintain its appearance over a period." PenCarrie offers a wide choice of workwear from brands that excel in this sector. Full uniform solutions are available from Dickies, Russell Workwear, RTY Workwear and Premier, while brands such as Result and Regatta offer technically advanced outerwear styles that are also suitable for the workwear market.

Most of the brands offer essential basics through to clothing designed to provide maximum performance and protection. Work trousers, shorts, coveralls, jackets, high visibility clothing, and reinforced footwear are all available.

The Dickies workwear range was added to PenCarrie's portfolio at the beginning of the year; its success led to PenCarrie stocking a further 15 styles from July 2009. Among the new arrivals are five forming the brand's latest collection, called "Dickies 22", plus accessories (including gloves, a knitted beanie, long johns and base layer vest).

Dickies 22 puts a new slant on workwear. The ‘washed out' look, distinctive branding and contrast stitching give the garments fashion appeal, while the use of Cordura and stretch fabrics provide durability and comfort.

There are plenty of practical features, such as knee pad pouches, tool pouches and cargo pockets. The Dickies 22 range currently comprises WD225 Work Jacket in 100% cotton canvas; WD226 Full Zip Sweatshirt with drop tail; WD224 T-Shirt (note the distinctive branding and stud detail on the sleeve); plus WD222 Work Trousers and WD223 Work Jeans, which both have internal kneepad pockets.       

PenCarrie also offers many items from Dickies' popular Redhawk range. This provides functional and tough workwear that is both excellent quality and highly affordable. For more demanding situations, the Dickies Eisenhower collection is extra resilient. A number of these styles have the areas particularly prone to wear (such as knees) reinforced with Cordura, a high performance fabric that is resistant to tearing, scuffing and abrasion. WD021 Eisenhower Heavy Duty 3/4 Trousers and WD009 Eisenhower Multi-Pocket Trousers both make use of Cordura.

Two new styles for 2009 from RTY Workwear are RT101 Soft Shell Workwear Jacket and RT38 Premium Workwear Trousers. There is plenty of attention to detail on both: for example, the jacket (in addition to being lightweight, water resistant and windproof) has reinforced shoulders and elbows; and reflective piping on the shoulder seams. Consistently top sellers from RTY Workwear are all good basic styles and include RT01 Heavyweight Pique Polo Shirt, RT33 Poly/Cotton Cargo Trousers, and RT30 Cotton Cargo Trousers.

Russell Workwear's 003M Twill Jacket, first available in January, has proved popular too. A contemporary-styled, unlined jacket, it co-ordinates with the brand's 001M Twill Trousers. Both garments come within Russell Workwear's ‘essentials' range which is broadly unisex in design and offers styles, colours and sizes that match and fit together. Both the 003M and 001M are available in six colours; the jacket comes in sizes from XS to 4XL and waist (regular and long) range 28" to 48".

Result also offers a number of styles for the workwear market. Heavy duty jackets are available from its Workguard collection. Other jackets include RS78 Waterproof Work Crew Jacket, which is windproof, waterproof and multi-featured; and RS124 Ripstop Soft Shell Work Jacket, which has Cordura panels on shoulders and elbows.
