We know exactly how green ours is. Our paper mills are inspected, certified and uphold rigorous standards, enabling us to offer a range of paper products with the knowledge that we are helping to take care of mother earth, for a "brighter shade of green".
So how do we do it?
By increasing our use of clean resources, reducing air pollution and investing in our community through our purchase of Green-e Certified energy from local utilities. By being accountable for our carbon footprint through using innovative, energy-saving upgrades and reducing emissions as a result of our legally binding undertakings.
Re-planting trees to replace those used by our mill, and adding further percentages for future growth, we not only take care of our investment in nature we care for wildlife also.
FSC Custody Certification
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an organisation that sets standards for and monitors environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests. To receive certification from the FSC we document and manage the path taken by raw materials from wherever they are harvested through processing, manufacturing, distribution and printing. This ensures products can be traced back to their source. The chain must never be broken otherwise certification is not given.
Increasing choice
To increase the number of FSC Recycled, FSC Mixed and FSC Pure choices throughout Neenah Brands we also buy paper with post consumer content, choose papers with FSC certified virgin fibre both of which protects trees and vegetation that, in turn, reduces global warming.
Renewable energy
Our mills use various methods to reduce emissions and create a stable environment that benefits both the mill and the earth. These methods include wind power, solar power, low-impact hydropower. Even our waste is turned into fuel by taking the by-product of our mills, sludge, which is converted to "green steam" through a clean incineration process, creating energy to use in further drying of products.
To commit to becoming carbon neutral Neenah became a member of the Chicago Climate Exchange in 2007 which is the second largest carbon reduction and trading system in the world. To this end Neenah have committed further resources to increase efficiencies through technological innovation, use more clean fuel sources and use Green-e certified energy.
Health and environment
GreenGuard Certification is a process by which certain chemicals in the manufacturing process are not used - or removed if naturally occurring. The lead content in all of our heat transfer products is less than 100ppm as measured by an independent third party. The phthalate ban applies to children's toys and childcare articles, and the level must be lower than 0.1%. All of our heat transfer products meet these requirements as measured by an independent third party. Our current inventory is compliant.
