For the first time this year, The Co-operative Clothing is offering 100% Fairtrade Certified Cotton garments from stock.
The five Fairtrade cotton garments available are the FT1 unisex pique polo, FT2 unisex T shirt, FT3 long apron, FT4 bar apron and the FT5 bib apron.
Fairtrade is an alternative to conventional international trade, providing the security of longterm contracts as well as the payment of a social premium to allow for democratically agreed investment in projects such as education, water supplies and medical facilities.
Fairtrade is synonymous with ethical sourcing. The Fairtrade Mark ensures small-scale cotton farmers in developing countries get a fair and stable price for their cotton and can improve their livelihoods.
At The Co-operative Clothing, we are committed to ethical sourcing which is why these Fairtrade Certified Cotton garments are manufactured in a factory that meets both SA800 social accountability standards and ISO14000 environmental standards.
This monitoring extends well beyond just quality to ensure that employees' working conditions, recreational amenities, local services and general standard of living are to acceptable levels.
In line with the values and principles of The Co-operative Group of which we are part, we are committed to improving our performance and pursuing best practice in labour standards and environmental management, with a view to achieving ‘ethical leadership' status in the corporate clothing sector over the next four years.
