Broad choice from the best organics and Fairtrade brands
Published:  03 July, 2009

PenCarrie has stocked Okarma's full range of 100% certified organic cotton goods (including clothing and accessories) since the brand's successful launch in 2007. The company also stocks the entire collection of Fairtrade garments from funky fashion brand Wombat, which has its own dedicated following. Eco-clothing from other respected brands is also available, including the new Fairtrade cotton apron from Premier and, from Result, some high visibility jackets made from over 25% recycled material.

Okarma is highly regarded not least because the brand's organic cotton is very soft to touch and has a lovely drape quality. All seven garments in the Okarma range are made from 100% GOTS and Control Union certified organic cotton that has been grown without the use of harmful chemicals.

Garments are available in a choice of colours as well as natural (undyed); with all dyestuffs being Oekotex and GOTS approved. All packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible, including compostable, recycled outer poly bags and recycled card swing tags.

"It means that organisations wanting to promote their own green credentials can buy Okarma organic clothing with a clear conscience," comments Andrea Charteris, PenCarrie's customer services manager.

Okarma provide T shirts in men's, women's and children's styles plus four adult unisex styles - a polo, a sweat, a hoodie and a fleece.

Okarma is also pioneering other eco-friendly materials and this year introduced the OK40 outdoor fleece jacket in 100% polyester made from recycled plastic bottles.

Wombat has both strengthened and widened its appeal to the fun-loving but also environmentally conscious youth sector by including Fairtrade clothing in its range.

A best-selling Fairtrade style for women is Wombat's WB155 girls Tambo tee which has fashionable cap sleeves plus calico colour raw trim at cuffs, neck and hem. Another style, new this year, is WB149 Shelley beach vest, a racer back top that has a woven placket with six cotton covered buttons.

"All Wombat women's styles have a quirky appeal about them and this is true of the Fairtrade styles too," notes Andrea.

"Tops may be reversible, longer length, have pouch or kangaroo style pockets, or maybe a hood when you wouldn't necessarily expect one," she explains. Wombat's Fairtrade styles for men are equally individual and include two hoodies: WB308 contrast narrows hoodie and WB310 Hervey hoodie.

In the hospitality sector, Premier noticed a gap in the market and introduced the PR112 Fairtrade apron. A bib style, with a single pocket, it is available in black. "This is an obvious choice for wholefood cafes and health food stores," comments Andrea. "It is also relevant for any ethically concerned organisation, from youth theatres (for ushers to wear) through to major organisations with staff canteens."
