It is important to distinguish between a T shirt made with organic cotton, and an organic T shirt. In short, a T shirt made with organic cotton is made with certified organic fibre, but is NOT necessarily certified throughout the supply chain (processing and manufacturing). In contrast, an organic T shirt is certified "organic" throughout the whole chain.

Fairtrade is a product certificate system designed to allow people to identify products which meet agreed environmental, labour and development standards. However, Fairtrade cotton is not necessarily organic! Therefore you should look primarily for organic Fairtrade T-shirts. 

Fairtrade cotton farmers are safe from world market price fluctuations. Finally, a Fairtrade cotton mark guarantees that the fibre was grown in a developing country, where it had the greatest positive impacts on producers.

Fruit of the Loom's SS005M organic cotton T Shirt, 140gsm, is 100% certified organic cotton, unbleached and undyed for a natural finish with 1x1 rib binding on the neckline. This T shirt is available in natural and sizes S to XXL. There is also a ladies' and children's equivalent of this T shirt, both available in natural.

Okarma have a range of completely organic garments including the OK40 100% recycled polyester full zip fleece. This 330gsm fleece is pill resistant on one side, has a full length front zip and an adjustable shock cord at the hem. Available in black and navy, sizes range from S to XXL.

Mantis provide of range of garments made from organic cotton including the Mantis MA103T organic women's sheer jersey tee. This tee has gently shaped side seams, a fashionable long body length and is in bio-recertified organic cotton from Africa. Sizes are S to XL and it comes in black, bubblegum pink and white.

Wombat have many garments that carry the Fairtrade mark. New for 2009, the WB149 girls' Shelly beach vest is 100% Fairtrade certified cotton jersey, 160gsm. This vest has soft hand feel racer back, pigment dyed for a vintage look and has a woven cotton placket with six cotton covered buttons. Colours include tropical blue.
