There's substitute for quality where workwear is concerned
Published:  05 June, 2009

PenCarrie views workwear as one of the most important sectors of the promotional clothing market. The company stocks a broad choice of styles from key brands such as Dickies, RTY Workwear, Russell Workwear, Premier and Result.

Work trousers, jackets (including high visibility safety styles), coveralls, shorts and protective footwear are all available for next day delivery. Complementary clothing, such as T shirts and polos that can be washed at high temperatures and fleeces are also available from all the top brands through PenCarrie.

"Workwear is all about performance and protection and it is an area where there is no substitute for quality," comments Andrea Charteris, PenCarrie's customer services manager. "All workwear is multi-featured and it is vital, when choosing a particular style, to think through which elements are key. What about stain resistance and wash temperatures? Do you need plenty of pockets and a hammer loop? Do trousers need to take kneepads? Is it important for shorts to have a reinforced seat? Is reflective piping on a jacket sufficient or is a high-vis style essential? These are just some of the basic considerations."

Dickies is new to the PenCarrie portfolio for 2009 and offers a number of collections. The Dickies Redhawk range is tough, functional and excellent value (note their WD007 super work trousers with external knee pad pockets, hammer loop, rule pocket and many other features; and WD002 stud front coverall, another multi-featured multi-pocketed design). For more demanding situations their Eisenhower range may be more relevant, with garments reinforced with Cordura extra hardwearing fabric at critical points. For example, WD009 multi-pocket trousers have Cordura for the kneepad pouches and the hem; and the WD021 heavy duty three-quarter trousers, made from a resilient 300gsm 65/35% poly/cotton canvas, also have Cordura kneepad pouches. Kneepads, available separately, are coded WD120.

Other new styles include the 003M twill workwear jacket from Russell Workwear. This contemporary-look unlined jacket coordinates with the brand's 001M twill workwear trousers.

RTY workwear has also added to its range with styles such as the RT101 soft shell workwear jacket and RT38 premium workwear trousers. The jacket is lightweight, water resistant and windproof; has reinforced shoulders and elbows; and reflective piping on the shoulder seams. The trousers have internal kneepad pockets and the 265gsm poly/cotton fabric has stain-resistant Teflon coating.

Premier is unusual in offering ladies' versions of a number of its workwear styles for men. For example, the PR510 ladies work trousers mirror the PR500 work trousers for men. Both styles are made from Klopman "Indestructible" fabric: extremely hardwearing, it also withstands industrial washing up to 85C.

More workwear options come from Result's wide range of performance jackets and outdoor clothing. One new style, RS132 TECH performance soft shell trousers, have stretch hip inserts and articulated knees. The three layer bonded fabric provides extra warmth as well as water resistance and windproofing. Other workwear styles from Result include RS124 ripstop soft shell work jacket; RS78 waterproof crew jacket; RS21 high vis vest; and RS211 motorist safety vest.
