And then along came two women who changed all of that: Martha Lane Fox and former Swedish model Kajsa Leander.   Suddenly the internet was sexy. The dotcom era had well and truly arrived and Martha and Kajsa were its stars, lastminute.com and boo.com its new superheroes.  It was a bean-feast! 

Champagne-fuelled Concorde flights to New York and investors flinging money at anyoldmetoo.coms like lemmings jumping off a cliff. Nirvana had arrived.

But sadly all good things come to an end, and finally the bubble burst in one gigantic flatulent rush of hot air. And of course there were winners as well as losers. Ironically for us in the garment industry, Kajsa's multi-coloured rotating 3D virtual sneakers got caught up in their own shoe laces and came crashing to the floor, whereas Martha's starship soared into interstellar space, albeit with a spot of turbulence and some near misses along the way.

Today, ten years after the dotcom phenomenon first saw light of day, RSK Tech has embarked upon a programme of product extensions and enhancements this year, all targeting the women's wear market.

And despite what it says on their Facebook profiles, they won't all be a size 6, so you have to cater for all shapes and sizes within the one order.

Diamante is all the rage and is the perfect adornment for a slinky little black T shirt to wear on the dance floor on a girl's night out. There are lots of great logos and artwork available and increasingly easy-to-use application methods such as stencil kits, so diamante is another excellent business opportunity that can be catered for using RSK NetShirt with visual rendering of rhinestone, as well as glitter and other types of appliqué artwork.

The days of the internet starlet may be gone, but there are plenty of business women out there running very successful online garment retail operations. So maybe in a more conservative, practical and down-to-earth way, we can now safely say, sisters really are doing it for themselves.
