With more than two decades of industry success to its name, Mantex Embroideries Ltd has plenty to celebrate as it fast approaches its 25th anniversary year.
The Wolverhampton firm has gone from strength to strength, offering a one stop shop for a wide range of garments designed for the printwear market.
From producing schoolwear and leisure clothing, to embroidery commissions for major sports and corporate events, the company is committed to delivering a range of quality goods.
As anyone who attended this year's Printwear & Promotion exhibition at the NEC will have observed, there was plenty of interest in its products and services which were effectively showcased at the event.
In terms of its customers, there is a fine back-catalogue of embroidery work that spans everything from badge work for premiership football clubs to major motor manufacturers' promotional goods.
Among the bluechip clientele are Del Monte, Michelin and Ford. The company has also provided embroidery services to Renault's F1 team and has worked for Citroen and Honda, to name just a few.
Company founder Amar Grewell certainly believes Mantex Embroideries has made great strides since its formation. He said: "We started back in 1985 and we are still a family run business."
After being in industry since the late Sixties, Amar recognised the potential of printwear and his family's hard-working philosophy has reaped rewards for the company.
"Our first deal was from Yale locks who ordered a large number of reversible jackets. My wife was over the moon with that and the money from that bought us our first machine. It just went from there - it was a fantastic start.
"The company is still doing well and we've just signed a deal to supply staff clothing to a major supermarket for the next five years which will necessitate the purchase of six more 8-head embroidery machines," he explained.
Key to the success is the highly skilled workforce at its Midlands headquarters. Its team has a range of quality machinery and embroidery equipment at their disposal.
This includes 180 working machine heads and staff can access a selection of more than 600 embroidery threads which allows for considerable working flexibility. They aim to turnaround commissions from three to seven days, depending on the scale of an order.
Clearly, the firm values a stable working environment and Amar is proud to reveal that Mantex Embroideries has excellent staff retention levels. This fosters a positive workplace and its versatile employees are capable of both producing and embroidering a broad spectrum of goods.
It seems they've got every base covered with staff able to work with a variety of garment fabrics including microfibres, fleeces, sweatshirts, polo shirts, sports garments and tabards.
Mantex Embroideries also provide a garment alteration service for everything from shortening trousers, adding pockets to garments and even adding contrast colour panels and piping to polos and teamshirts.
"Most of our staff have been here for 15 years - some of the younger ones for about 10 years - so they are very loyal. We believe that if you treat your staff well they look after you as they're the ones who bring you the business," said Amar.
"I enjoy what I do and it's all about the approach you take. We want to be at the forefront of the industry and not be left behind like some in the past have done," explains Amar, who has now installed the younger generation of the family, Pinda and Sandeep, to manage much of the company's general operations.
"I've ensured that I have passed on my knowledge that I've built up on to them and it is they who do the hiring of staff round here now and they also look after the production too.
"We decided to start manufacturing as the lead times are a lot less if you are based in the UK. Over the last couple of years we have seen this happening more often," said Amar, commenting on the production arm of the firm which is continuing to grow.
Another expanding element of the company is its re-labelling service, in which labels of a firm's choice will be re-sewn into the major brand garments it stocks. According to the firm, this has proved popular as customers are increasingly savvy about the need to forge their own bespoke products.
There have been many highlights for Mantex Embroideries to date, but what, for Amar, are among the most significant?
"We've been involved in some big deals including supplying the Isle of Man and Welsh teams for the Commonwealth Games and staff and athletes at the Athens Paralympics in 2004, which were both really good for us. We still, of course, deal with people wanting smaller orders as that's our bread and butter."
Keeping up to speed with the ever-changing needs of its broad customer base is of prime importance to Mantex Embroideries.
The company appears well equipped to weather the recession with its ability to both provide and embroider garments. With a number of new projects on the horizon, the future looks bright.
