CTS imaging system joins the fold
Published:  05 May, 2009

M&R has added three new printers and an imaging system to its portfolio. They include the i-Screen Computer-to-Screen (CTS) Imaging System, Abacus Manual Numbering Press; the i-Dot Digital Textile Printer and the Alpha 8 Oval Automatic Textile Press. The i-Screen CTS Imaging System uses i-Pak water-based UV-blocking ink and high-resolution inkjet technology to generate opaque images on emulsion-coated screens.

CTS images are superior to traditional film positives, delivering greater detail and smoother halftone transitions. And because i-Screen generates the image directly to the screen, there's no need for vacuum hold-down during the exposure process.

This, coupled with the fact that light doesn't have to penetrate layers of film and glass, can reduce exposure time up to two-thirds. The system includes computer, monitor, and M&R's i-Block RIP software. i-Block provides full image scaling and positioning, has presets for common applications, and can be user-customized for specific art types and various mesh counts.

i-Screen accepts most static and self-tensioning screen frames in sizes up to 79 x 109 cm (31 x 43ins) and is capable of producing image areas up to 64 x 93 cm (25 x 36.5ins).

Count on Abacus

The Abacus Manual Numbering uses a modified Chameleon 8-station manual press as its base and a 20-printhead Duo-Deck configuration on top making it easy to print two-colour numbers.

Abacus accepts a wide variety of pallets, including flat and five types of swivel-and-slide numbering pallets.

Abacus can simultaneously accommodate screen frames up to 51 x 61 cm (20 x 24ins) in all 20 printheads, or screen frames up to 58 x 79 cm (23 x 31ins) in every other printhead. M&R offers a wide selection of pallet arms, including numbering pallets in 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm (4, 6, 8, 10 and 12ins) number sizes.

Indexer handles (optional) make it easy to rotate the lower carousel. Features include a machine-tooled and polished 7.62 cm (3ins) centre shaft, heavy-duty tapered roller bearings, extra-large knobs, micro-registration with dual off-contact adjustment, and tool-free spring tension adjustment.

Dotting the i's

M&R's i-Dot has nearly everything you need to get started in digital textile printing.

It comes with a 36 x 52 cm (14 x 20.5ins) pallet but can print images up to 41 x 51 cm (16 x 20ins) on 100% cotton, 50/50 cotton blend, and some polyester fabrics. The image quality and ink-saver capability is made possible by M&R's Absolute Position® Technology (APT) and i-Color RIP Software.

The i-Dot's startup kit includes a full set of i-Pak ink cartridges; eight i-Clean cartridges for printhead flushing; i-Prep fabric pre-treatment for dark and coloured garments; i-Tack pallet adhesive and i-Clean solution for cleaning individual printheads.

APT uses M&R's high-resolution servo encoder. This enables i-Dot to print multiple layers of ink on dark and coloured shirts with unmatched layer-to-layer accuracy.

The i-Color RIP software converts data files into printed images. It can print images in nine file formats.

When a carousel won't fit

Alpha 8, available in Standard (50 x 70cm print size) and Jumbo (80 x 110cm print size) models, is M&R's new take on the oval-shaped press. Its shape takes up less floor space than comparable carousel presses.

The 8-station Base/Drive Module supports up to 6 printheads, while the Plug & PrintTM modular design provides for expansion, in six-station increments, up to 62 stations on the Standard model, and up to 32 stations on the Jumbo.

The servo-drive indexing system combines high speed with smooth operation and precise control. It also incorporates multiple-indexing capability.

Hooded sweatshirts, pant legs, cut pieces, T-shirts, and most other types of textiles can be easily loaded and properly located on the Alpha 8, maximizing production and flexibility.

At 80 x 110 cm (31.4 x 43.5ins), Alpha 8 Jumbo features the largest standard image area ever offered on a M&R textile press. It also features a dual-drive servo system.
