A round to remember with Nike
Published:  07 April, 2009

The golfing world has plenty of possibilities for the printwear market. With the emergence of major high street brands on to the scene, its potential can only gain further momentum. Neill Barston quizzes Jim Smith of NIKE Golf about its latest range being distributed through BTC.

1. How does Nike feel about entering the UK printwear market with products including the Golf Dri-Fit Tech Solid Polo shirts, caps and associated goods including umbrellas?

"We have always had corporate business on our radar, and are now in a position to execute on our strategy. Visiting the UK Printwear show allows us to view the latest technologies, and align our business needs with the market."

2. What do you believe makes Nike products (such as those listed above) stand out as being special?

"Nike Golf takes pride in the fact that it was the original pioneer and leader of incorporating technical fabrics into golf apparel design. Thanks to us, as the number one golf apparel company in the world, the days of strictly cotton polo's are over.

Through the years, Nike Golf's apparel category has galvanized the golf industry by inspiring onlookers to view golf fashion differently. In so doing, we have made golf look different and it has made what you wear an important ingredient in how you perform. Nike Golf led the way in the use of technical fabrics in golf fashion by introducing features such as moisture management, dimension of stretching, sweat zone ventilation, evaporation and airflow, lightweight compression for range of motion, seam free, no sew and much more."

3. Is the golfwear market an expanding area of business for Nike and will there be further developments to come?

"We strive daily to maintain very best in technical innovation combined with a flair and passion for style. Our style is unique, blending traditional designs with modern silhouettes, for an overall look that is progressive yet respectful of the game itself. We lead the way in technical fabrics and will continue to evolve and bring new technologies to the golfer which will aid their game as well as making them look good."

4. What has been the company's approach to designing its sporting goods?

"The mission for the Nike brand is to bring innovation to every athlete in the world. Bill Bowerman, Co- Founder for Nike said "If you have a body, you are an athlete. Nike Golf's mission statement is to become the most desirable golf brand for people who love the game. It is Nike's nature to innovate that has made us a leader in sport for more than 30 years. That same belief and unrelenting passion has driven us to become the Number 1 golf apparel brand in the game.

5. How much does having stars such as Tiger Woods using Nike golfing help with marketing and sales of your products?

"Our relationship with Tiger is very important and one that we hope will last a lifetime. There is no question that our athletes create an interest in demand for our products."
