Sericol host PVC free seminar
Published:  23 December, 2004

There has been much media comment about the impact of PVC resins and phthalate plasticisers on environmental and health and safety concerns.

To confront these issues and to help printers transition to PVC/phthalate free plastisols, Sericol held a one-day seminar in October at its headquarters in Broadstairs. The seminar was attended by textile printers from across Europe and illustrated just how real the issues surrounding PVCs and phthalates are, and how they are impacting on the textile printing industry.

The programme focused on a series of presentations and a factual overview of the issues surrounding PVC/ phthalates and advice on how to avoid contamination with either in the print shop.

Sericol introduced Texopaque Pioneer OK to its range of PVC/phthalate free screen inks, followed by a practical print demonstration. Attendees were shown the product being manufactured during a tour of the company's manufacturing plant.

Delegates were also shown demonstrations of Sericol's colour management systems, key to which is a dispenser that mixes plastisol ink. The computer controlled dispenser mixes accurate colour matches and reduces the risks of cross contamination, making it ideal for printers who are making the switch to PVC/phthalate free plastisols.

The seminar achieved its key objective of providing options to printers to respond successfully to changes in their marketplace whilst at the same time proving that quality and productivity do not have to be compromised as part of the change process.
