"Cost effective solutions are discussed, whilst important, yet often overlooked, considerations – such as minimum runs, and re-ordering of garments requiring special knits and dyes – are resolved," says Beezer.

The company reports that demand for more individual garments is increasing across all sectors of the market. “There is a pre-conceived notion that the demand for tailor-made garments is primarily within the corporate sector,” says Malcolm Charles, company director.

“While that sector arguably initially led the way, other sectors of the industry, such as schoolwear, childrenswear, sportswear and workwear, have also been quick to realise the full potential of the bespoke garment.”

He adds: “From about 1998 the demand for bespoke garments began to grow as businesses realised their corporate image is crucial. By the year 2000 nearly 20% of all new enquiries were for Design-and-Make or adaptions to standard Specials or Stock garments.”

Requests for tailor made garments cover most of Beezer’s range, but the most popular has been the polo shirt, it says – either made to customer’s own designs, or using colourway adaptions to existing styles. It says the most popular features requested include stripes, piping or a customer’s logo used as ‘wallpaper’ on part or all of the garment.

Charles adds: “We receive a diverse range of bespoke garment requests, some of which are unusual to say the least.We do produce some truly unique garments.”
