But the big question is where to produce, says Teamwear. China offers great pricing and technical fabrics, but sampling is expensive, lead times are long, and quality control is hard to monitor. However, Teamwear says it can now deliver totally bespoke baseball caps in 2-3 weeks from China.

Turkey can offer lower quantities and faster delivery times, says Teamwear. Polo shirts can be delivered in three to four weeks with minimums as low as 100pcs for garments using stock fabrics. “Portugal has always been a great place for bespoke clothing and is good for factory visits, not least because of the wine and sardines, but also because it is where we have been making our team shirts since the very beginning.”

Teamwear predicts that there will always be demand for a bespoke service. As stock ranges grow in styles and colours, clients will always request what is not available from stock, usually so that it fits in with other garments in a range they are putting together, it says. “Minimum order quantities will drop but they will never get too low, as there is a point at which buying abroad and the cost to transport will make the garment cheaper to produce closer to home.”
