The Lady-fit polo |
Rugby World Cup fever is just around the corner, bringing with it not-to-be-missed opportunities to sell rugby-related supporters’ wear and souvenir apparel, says Fruit of the Loom.
“Thousands, if not millions, of fans will want to demonstrate support for their national team through the clothes they wear during the tournament. That would have meant investing in a team jersey in the past. However, the latest skin-tight international rugby jerseys are designed to give the world’s top players a competitive edge on the pitch and will do little for the average rugby fan who is unlikely to be in as good shape as their on-pitch idols.”
So which styles should you be supplying during the run up to the finals in September? According to Fruit of the Loom, the polo shirt is the ideal choice for rugby supporters.
“The key requirement of rugby supporters’ clothing is to proclaim allegiance to the person’s team or country,” points out Alison Woodvine, European brand manager. “However, people also want their garments to be comfortable and flattering. Modern rugby jerseys are anything but flattering when worn by anyone other than top athletes, and then there is their high cost to consider,” she says. “A polo shirt, by comparison, is comfortable, flattering, and the perfect canvas for national team embroideries and prints. Affordable and hardwearing, it can be worn with confidence almost anywhere – to the game, to the post match celebrations, to televised matches in the golf club bar, and even into work on a dress-down-Friday.”
Fruit of the Loom features 11 polo shirt styles in its 2007 catalogue, catering for men, women and children. However,Woodvine recommends two styles, in particular, for the summer’s main sporting event: the Premium Polo and Lady-Fit Polo.
The Premium Polo uses high quality 100% combed ringspun cotton fabric, (170/180 gm/m2), and comes in sizes S – XXL, to fit chest 47 - 49” / 119.5 - 124.5 cm. (Alternatively, the 65/36 Polo is available in sizes up to XXXL – to fit chest sizes up to 52”/132 cm – for the largest customers.) Most importantly, the Premium Polo’s 14-strong colour palette caters for all the national teams appearing in the finals.
The Lady-Fit Polo complements the Premium Polo perfectly, says Fruit of the Loom, offering an option that’s designed specifically for female fans. Its heavyweight 97% ringspun combed cotton/3% elastane fabric, (210/220 gm/m2), together with shaped side seams, ensures a flattering and comfortable fit, plus excellent shape retention. The polo is available in sizes XS – XL.
“Both garments are made for decorationand will add value to any rugby-related promotion or merchandise collection,”Woodvine adds.
