When it comes to womenswear, Skinnifit says it looks at all aspects of what women want in terms of fit: from length to the type of trim at the neck. Even with co-ordinating male/female garments, it’s not merely a case of making the men’s garment a little bit bigger or vice versa, says Skinnifit. It’s all about ensuring that the wearer gets the optimum fit from the style: whether it’s a tighter fitting T or the new, looser-fit sloppy-jo’ jumper.
Fashion trends in retail come and go fairly rapidly, and those in the know change their style frequently according to the latest trend. Our market demands much more longevity from products: both in terms of styling and performance – and of course, the requirement that the garments can be decorated.
Skinnifit offers modern styles and shapes that reflect what’s happening in retail and “on the street” – but omits the one-season wonders and foibles of the fashion world in favour of key, modern pieces which appeal to a wider audience. The Skinnifit look is based on clean lines and wearable looks – with the focus on shape, fabric and style, it says. And the garments are not only designed by women, but also trialled on a panel of women.“We all know that a garment designed for a man just won’t be cut to the right proportions for a woman: the shoulder seams will be somewhere down the upper arm, the armhole near the waist, and a straight side seam contributing to a general lack of shape or recognisable form,” says Skinnifit. “In order to maximise the potential of any brand or logo, it has got to look good. Placing a logo on a saggy, shapeless T just doesn’t do the job and certainly doesn’t provide a dynamic, smart, positive or constructive look for either the wearer or the customer.”
Skinnifit was launched purely to cater for what women want, and even though the company has grown to include Skinnifitmen and Skinni Minni (for kids), the basic principles remain the same. The new Skinnifit launches for this year include the Modern Essential Tube Top and the Modern Essential Vest – both in cotton/elastane material, which blends comfort and shape retention in one smooth fabric. Both these garments feature a hidden inner-support shelf in self-fabric.
Fabric also plays a huge part in womenswear and Skinnifit has reacted to the lighter, floatier fabrics on the high street with the introduction of its Fineweight range. This has been engineered to be soft and smooth but without the total sheerness and transparency that accompanies many of the high street styles. The Skinnifit Fineweight Scoop Neck T and the Hoodie are both cut specially to ensure that there’s no cling: just drape. They’re perfect for layering over or under other garments – whether it be under a T, or over a tank – or even one over the other, says Skinnifit. Like all the garments, each of these are carefully shaped to give tummy coverage.
The Modern Essential T is a perfect example of Skinnifit fit and attention to detail, and is now available in a range of 24 colours, says the company. “Every area of the garment from the shape of the back of the neck to the length of the sleeve and the selection of the rib at the neck has been scrutinised, tried and tested. The fabric has been pulled and worn and washed, and the colour palette reviewed regularly to make sure that it’s got everything that’s being seen in retail.”
