The heat is on
Grafityp UK Ltd describes its collection of textile products covering a range of different applications
Published:  01 May, 2007

Grafityp UK says it offers customers the ability to purchase a variety of heat applied garment films in one place. And each of the products has its own unique features, whether it contains elasticity for application on to stretchy materials or has a slightly sticky backing to help it adhere to the fabric when laying out your design for heat pressing.

Below is an introduction to each of the Grafityp textile products to offer guidance on which is most suitable for the job. The materials come in roll format and in various widths for cutting on plotter cutters with the desired designs. The rolls are standard widths but can be cut to the customer’s specifications on request, and sprocketed if required. There is also a product available in A4 and A3 sheet format for use on small format printers.

Grafiflex film is available in 14 colours and is a popular choice as a standard film for application on to T-shirts and sweatshirts, caps and workwear as it is washable at up to 60°C.

Grafiflex Extra, in seven colours, is designed specifically for application to difficult fabrics like nylons, sportswear, bags and umbrellas, as well as on to materials like leather, using its own Polyester backing.

Grafiflex PU is the recommendation for more complex designs that may require multi-layering. In 15 colours, including silver and gold, it is much thinner than the standard material and can be layered without colours showing through.

Grafiflex PS in 13 colours is ideal for use on materials like cotton or poly/cotton mixtures. It is a high quality, slightly self-adhesive film helping to adhere the graphics during the heat application process. It can also be washed at up to 80°C.

Grafiflex Fashion provides scope for adding a touch of glamour and sparkle to designs on textiles for special occasions or just for a different high-class look. The range of 11 colours, gold, silver, black/silver, blue/silver, red/silver, pink/silver and transparent glitter, together with sand and pearl has recently been extended and is proving very popular.

Grafiflex Day-Glo is a range of fluorescent coloured materials for high impact lettering and graphics, which is ideal for promotional garments. It can be applied to T-shirts, caps, workwear etc. and comes in five colours.

Grafiflock provides a velvety texture to your designs and comes in seven colours.

Grafiflex-Elasticut is a highly stretchable material developed for application on to materials such as Lycra® and Elastane® but which is also suitable for fabrics like polyester/cotton. The end result gives the impression of being screen printed. There are seven colours available in this range.

Grafiflex-Proma Plus is a range of special effect films and foils for adding something a little more imaginative to garments in glitter, pearl, spectrum and metallic options. There are 12 in all and various colour choices.

Grafiflex-Proma is a range of high quality, low cost garment material available in 16 colours from stock. Excellent for detailed applications, with washing temperatures of up to 80°C.

As large format printers become a popular addition to many workplaces, we see the installation of many print and cut machines, such as the Roland VersaCAMM. These machines give the versatility to produce multiple printed graphics with ease, cutting them out for you too, which can then be heat applied as with regular films.

To cater for the needs of this growing market, Grafityp offer a suitable selection of printable garment films:

Grafi-C-Print is an extremely thin and stretchy thermo-weldable material formulated for use on thermo-resin, solvent and eco-solvent printers. Garments can be washed at up to 50°C after application.

Grafi-C-Print Extra offers the same properties as Grafi-C-Print with the added bonus of being suitable for application on to difficult textiles such as nylon and sportswear.

Grafi-C-Print Glitter, again for use on thermo-resin, solvent and eco-solvent printers, provides a stunning look to text and graphics by printing on to the glitterbased material, transforming the dullest of images into something special. It is suitable to apply to “normal” textiles, without silicone treatment, and is opaque even on dark fabrics.

For the smaller, desktop printers using water based and pigmented inks, Grafityp includes an A4 and A3 size sheet transfer material.

Grafi-T-Jet is a 70gsm print transfer for application on to light coloured materials. The image is printed in reverse (mirrored) then heat applied to the garment in the usual way and becomes fully washable at up to 40°C.
