Schoolwear and garment importers and suppliers, Blue Max today announced the acquisition of the Stag Knitwear Company. The shares in Stag, owned by family interests, were acquired outright for an undisclosed sum.
The merger will enable the combined business to offer the full range of garments that are essential to the schoolwear market. It will enhance the strengths of both companies and provide the ability to satisfy the increased demands they are both experiencing for schoolwear products.
The merger of the two companies, both market leaders in their particular area with a reputation for product quality, customer service and competitive pricing, will provide a basis for improved customer response and wide product selection and availability.
The companies will continue to work independently on distribution with Stag products to be sent from Nottingham and Blue Max products from its base in Trowbridge.
David Fawcus, Chief Executive Officer, said “Blue Max has long wanted to increase the range of schoolwear products it could offer, and we preferred to do this by way of acquisition. Stag was our first choice, not least because it is a family business like us, sharing the same values that we hold to be so important. Blue Max is financially strong and its buying power will improve the profitability of the combined business and the ability to compete.
“We believe that bringing together these two great family businesses is an important step in the continued development of Blue Max and the service we can offer our customers. The combined business will rank amongst the largest providers of schoolwear in the country".
Jeremy Phillips, Sales & Marketing Manager, added: “An important benefit of the deal is that there is minimal duplication in the product ranges, so both firms can immediately cross-sell across the respective customer bases. This provides a huge opportunity to grow sales. Another benefit is the customer requirement for embroidery and manufacturing of personalised schoolwear – a capability that Blue Max currently lacks and Stag’s manufacturing facilities can provide.
“It’s a positive move for our customers as well. This is a highly competitive market but both firms have shown they can successfully position themselves between the traditional suppliers and the supermarkets. By offering high quality at value for money prices, we believe we have the right formula for this growing market.”
