Madeira says that following high demands for its Burmilana wool blend embroidery thread it has enlarged the range of colours. The company says that the high percentage of wool gives Burmilana volume and texture which does not ‘pill’ like other similar threads. Madeira is now supplying the Burmilana shade card 67 2006, with 82 new colours - 41 single colours, seven mélange, 20 mouliné and 14 multicolours.

A new Supertwist No. 12 is also featured. With 48 colours including the holographic shade 3011, Madeira’s Supertwist 12 complements its Burmilana 12 for thickness, and with its metallic twist can be used for highlights or on its own for special effects. Madeira says that its Supertwist is made from 90/10 polyester/polyamid, while Burmilana is made from 50/50 wool/acrylic. Both Burmilana and Supertwist No 12 are perfect for embroidery, chenille embroidery and all types of decorative stitching. Due to low demand, Madeira is set to reduce 12 of the Burmilana colour range to make way for new products. Although the company has not stated which colours it is discontinuing, it states that orders will be despatched whilst stocks last. However it is advisable to check this with your supplier.

A new shadecard is offered for Madeira’s 100% viscose rayon classic thread

Madeira’s 100% viscose rayon classic thread now has a new shadecard. The company offers 413 colours in its Madeira classic 40 range and some new styles have been introduced. The four Madeira classics are represented on this shadecard from very fine to heavier weight, showing what Madeira claims to be the widest range of viscose embroidery thread in the world. Some ten new Astro colours have been added, which Madeira says is at the same price as its Multicolors range. The Multicolors range has also been reduced from 15 to 13 with colours 2102, 2140 and 2106 discontinued.

A new shade card is now available for its X.tra brilliant No 30 embroidery thread. Launched at IMB Cologne, X.tra brilliant is a new looking shiny thread which Madeira says is easy to use on an embroidery machine. X.tra brilliant is available in 28 metallic look colours, and standard metallic threads can be replaced with Madeira X.tra, in particular where the reverse of the embroidery must not scratch or cause irritation - for example on lingerie, underwear, and childrenswear.

Finally, Madeira has launched Firefighter, a flame and heat resistant thread for special safety uses such as motor sports, aeronautics and fire brigades. It contains Nomex branded fibres from DuPont and the bobbin thread is suitably flame retardant. Contact your supplier for further information. ww.maderia.co.uk

GS UK Ltd is a distributor of Gunold ENKA Gold Label Embroidery viscose embroidery yarns which are entirely made of 100% ENKA viscose in all colours and counts. According to Gunold this viscose artificial silk is very similar to real silk, and the refraction of light and cleanness of the thread make the yarn even more brilliant and shining. Its Sulky brand is currently offered with 32 new colours and comes with an extensive colour card that includes a range totalling 390 colours.

Gunold says that Sulky breaks less frequently with increasing sewing speed than an alternative viscose and is more forgiving to wrong thread tensioning. Gunold states that Sulky guarantees even and perfect embroidery from the first to the last metre. Another advantage, the embroidery design does not lose anything when being put under long stress and thus profits from a long-term, unique, and excellent appearance. One of the latest developments in embroidery consumables is the introduction of FALC, a comparatively new embroidery thread to the UK and Ireland market. Made in Italy, the thread is billed as having European quality at budget prices. As far as the usual safety features go such as laundering etc, FALC matches all of the major brands and so can be used in both rayon and polyester. The thread is imported by Your Embroidery Services Ltd, who says that stocks are now in place. 01623 863343 www.yesltd.co.uk
