Tee off in style

2006 has seen a new range of golfwear from manufacturer Glenmuir. The company told Printwear & Promotion about its history and current offering.

A passion for performance golf clothing and golf-inspired leisurewear maintains Glenmuir's position at the heart of the game of golf. Since 1987, the company has proudly designed and supplied shirts and knitwear for successive European Ryder Cup Teams, and has been chosen as the Preferred Supplier to the 2006 European Ryder Cup Team, captained by Glenmuir ambassador Ian Woosnam.

According to Andy Bough of Glenmuir, every Ryder Cup Captain approaches the event differently, but none that he has ever dealt with has taken such an active interest in the look, feel and performance characteristics of the clothing for his team.

The scrutiny of a Captain with a fine eye for detail is almost an entry-level requirement; the gaze of the world's media, on the other hand, is the greatest trial a company like Glenmuir gets. It all goes to mean that the vast majority of branding on Glenmuir clothing is done in-house, where a tight rein can be kept on quality control, because the standards demanded by corporate clients are somewhere between Captain Ian Woosnam and the worldwide TV audience of some 65 million golfers.

Glenmuir’s Andy Bough said, ‘As a private consumer one likes to examine a jumper or shirt closely to gauge the quality and essential feel of the garment.

‘When you've invested in several hundred items with your own name or logo embroidered in pride of place, you're going to be several hundred times more critical.’

Glenmuir has made a stunning step forward with its Spring 2006 collection, using performance fabrics and new colour co-ordinations across all product categories. Shirts in beautiful Supima cotton and mercerised two-ply yarns, knitwear in cotton, merino, and lambswool, and new performance wind shirts and waterproofs combine in three unique colour stories for men and women.

A list of approved companies, to whom Glenmuir supplies apparel for embroidering, benefits directly from the use of these fabrics. Their careful workmanship applied to Glenmuir's carefully chosen fabrics makes for logos that are of superb clarity, comfort and resilience.

‘If you want to be identified with the best, Glenmuir's cresting service lets you show exactly where your loyalties lie’ explains Andy. ‘We offer a computer-aided graphics service, with embroidery quality managed by our experienced in-house Embroidery Department. Combined with our comprehensive stock service, it is no wonder Glenmuir is the number one choice for club, corporate and event merchandise.’

Classic designs are married with the latest fabrics and manufacturing techniques to give the golfer the highest standards of performance - both on and off the course. It is no wonder that Glenmuir has been the favourite brand of the top professional and the club golfer for over one hundred years.

The star of the new collection is undoubtedly proving to be the new Dry-Tech moisture management fabric, featured in men's and women's zip neck polo shirt designs. This performance fabric is ideal for golf and great for custom embroidery. The Dry-Tech story also runs into new men's and women's thermal fleece tops.

A new look brochure showcases the collection, which will be available in golf shops from March onwards. For further information on Glenmuir’s promotional range, contact your usual distributor.
