As end users and wearers become more and more aware of environmental issues regarding clothing, one brand was launched with Fairtrade as its message.
Epona Sport was one of the first brands to be accredited with the Fairtrade mark and so far is the only accredited brand to be focussing solely on the promotional market. The range currently consists of mens and womens T-shirts and hoodies, all of which are made from organic cotton that is sourced direct from farmers in India.
The Fairtrade price ensures that a premium is paid to the farmer who is then able to reinvest in more produce. The organic cotton used has a slightly softer feel to the wearer but offers little difference to the decorator.
Epona Sport has been in business for around three years and gained the accreditation in November 2005. The brand is also introducing a tag on all its garments from April onwards that will feature the Fairtrade mark.
