At 2:30pm on the final day of the exhibition, the winner of the YES Ltd 10th anniversary competition was announced.
The event was launched twelve months earlier, when Your Embroidery Services Ltd celebrated its 10th anniversary at P&P 2005. Many will remember the cute teddy bears given away at the show, but the bigger event was the launch of the prize draw that would see one lucky person/company win a free embroidery machine.
The way to be included in the draw was to purchase a new SWF embroidery machine within the following 12 months - which included this year's show. Some were included in the draw even at the last moment having purchased machines at this years show.
Tony Whitmore, Director and organiser of shows for YES Ltd. told P&P that ‘it was important to us to celebrate ten years of trading and although the teddy bears provided a memorable point of interest, we really wanted to do something extra special. Hence the prize draw for the machine.
‘Why at P&P exhibition? Simply because it is the major show of the year and one where we always have a major presence and we are very grateful to the organisers for helping us, especially this year by standing as independent arbiters in the actual draw.’
The names of all the entrants were put into individual envelopes by Roy and Nita Burton of YES Ltd., and Dan Raywood and Neale Salt of Printwear and Promotion, with the whole process being overseen by Exhibition Manager Richard Smith.
The draw was made on the fashion show stage by Richard Smith in front of an excited audience, who finally announced the winner as Alan Thompson of Bettaprint Garment Decoration in Rochdale.
When Alan was asked for his comments he said, ‘I feel a bit of a fraud really as all I had to do was buy a SWF embroidery machine. We have been in business for four years now since I bought the company and we have a total of 56 heads including four SWF machines. One 12 head, one four head and two eight heads. We use YES Ltd a lot as we really like the machines. The prices are very fair and we especially like the people because they are very helpful and they don't laugh at you when you ask a stupid question!’
The machine given as the prize was a SWF/B-T1201C compact single head complete with standard frames, a very welcome addition to any workroom. It is always gratifying to report good news but it is even betta (excuse the pun) to be involved in the development of that news. Congratulations to Bettaprint for winning and to YES Ltd for its 10th anniversary.
