Urban fashion and an organic outlook
Published:  09 March, 2006

With a heritage in urban lifestyle clothing, Mantis told Dan Raywood about its new styles for 2006, and what differences decorators can find in the range.

Leading the way for relaxed, urban clothing, Mantis World provides a complete collection encompassing the latest retail trends for men and women.

Sports-inspired designs are given a lift with the introduction of the new Stretch 360° French Terry fabric. Unbrushed with a clean finish, this high tech fabric combines breathable cotton with elastane to stretch with the wearer for a flattering and more comfortable fit. It is used in the new contrast sports collection M52 (Mens) and M53 (Womens) Contrast Hoodies, M54 Mens Contrast Sports Pants and M55 Womens Contrast Yoga Pants.

The new Stretch 360° Jersey fabric is a super soft, stretchy, performance fabric with unbeatable results wash after wash. Used in a variety of Mantis styles including the new M100 Womens Stretch360° Tee and M200 Mens Stretch360° Tee. These two styles combine the latest silhouettes and a tone-on-tone cover stitch detail to the neck, side seams and bottom hem for a contemporary look.

Innovative retro fabrics lead the Urban Lifestyle trend. Favourites continue to be the trendy and luxuriously soft M38 and M39 Velour Jacket and Flared Pants. A favourite look for celebrity divas from J-Lo to Madonna, the velour tracksuit is once again the style to be seen in this season.

The Mantis M41 Womens Mesh Vest utilises a peek-through Polyester Mesh featuring a front and back patch designed for branding and is ideal for layering over the M5 Camisole. Once again, there is a comeback of retro fabrics such as Terry Towelling used exclusively in the sporty and sexy M50 and M49 Womens Terry Collared Top and Mini Skirt.

A relaxed feel is evident with a selection of Mantis styles that reflect the latest from street wear trends, incorporating layering and raw edges such as the M44 and M45 Layered Long Sleeve tops for men and women and the M33 Womens Capped Sleeve Layered Top.

Sporty styles with a flash of contrast colours breathe new life into classic shapes including the M42 and M43 Mens and Womens Sports Stripe Tops, and the versatile M31 and M32 Raglan Jackets that feature contrast piping and zippers.

If your desires are for a more natural fibre, the TLC range is made from 100% Organic Cotton and is made to be gentler against the skin and kinder to the planet

The range has been increased to nine styles for 2006, with styles now offered to men, women, children and babies. This year, two new styles have been added from the Babybugz range, the BZ08-TLC Organic Baby Envelope Neck Top that is soft and gentle against the skin; and the ultra-practical BZ09-TLC Organic Baby Sleepsuit, with long sleeves, legs and ‘booties’, to help wrap the baby up for extra comfort and warmth.

The unique ‘TLC’ 2006 collection was the first to bring natural organic cotton clothing to the promotional clothing market with a stunning product range that offers customers ‘the organic version’ of the most popular and ‘classic’ Mantis, Humbugz and Babybugz’ styles.

From Mantis, there is the M1-TLC Organic Womens Skinny Tee and M2-TLC Organic Mens Stretchy T-Shirt. From the kids range Humbugz there is the HM1-TLC Organic Girls Skinny Tee and HM2-TLC Organic Boys T-Shirt, and from Babybugz for babies – the BZ02-TLC Organic Baby T-shirt and BZ01-TLC Organic Baby Hat.

All TLC styles are made from 100% certified Organic Combed Cotton and come in either, soft and stretchy Interlock or fine knit Single Jersey, perfect for those organic minded wearers (by EcoCert International, the inspection and certification body accredited to verify conformity of organic products).

The TLC cotton is grown in Uganda using more sustainable farming methods and without pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and then processed into fabric without using bleach or dyes, to retain its natural texture and colour. The result is a high quality ultra soft fabric, free of unwanted additives.

This fabric is then stitched with 100% cotton sewing thread for a completely natural finish that makes every TLC garment gentle against the skin and kinder to the planet.

The growing media coverage and consumer interest in fairly traded and organically produced clothing means even more corporations and organizations are looking to source their own promo and corporate clothing ethically and environmentally. A growing realization that cheap prices may mean exploitative working conditions means that increasingly buyers want transparency and assurances that their suppliers are adhering to a high code of ethical conduct.
