The influence of retail clothing trends on imprintable apparel has never been greater. Look at Fruit of the Loom’s current activewear collection, for example, and you will find streetwise styles that are more than a match for fashion basics in the stores.
The funky looks in no way compromise the garments’ suitability as a promotional medium, however – each style provides the perfect background for print and embroidery.
‘Fruit of the Loom has been manufacturing textiles for more than a century and a half, and has seen many fashions come and go,’ points out Jane Goodman, Vice President of Marketing. ‘Over that time, our product development department has become expert at translating the latest fashions into imprintable styles for corporate and promotional wear customers. The 2006 activewear collection is our most fashion-oriented ever, offering a fantastic selection of up-to-the-minute styles, whilst retaining the outstanding quality and value that underpin our market leadership position.’
The new Ringer T is a prime example of how Fruit of the Loom takes a trend from the street and translates it to a fashionable promotional garment. The T-shirt’s contrast colour crew neck and cuff ribs echo today’s clubwear and music merchandise, offering a hint of retro, 60’s styling.
The red/white and white/red colourways are very contemporary and there is six additional colourways to choose from. Looks aside, the 100% cotton Ringer T uses Belcoro yarn for a softer feel and superior comfort, the tight knit of the fabric providing the optimum surface for print.
Equally in tune with current trends, the Baseball T Short Sleeve and Baseball T Long Sleeve deliver the same combination of ‘cool’ retro looks and modern fashion appeal. Drawing inspiration from the traditional contrast raglan sleeve top, these styles are favourites with music fans, the surf and skate crowd, not to mention the staff at hip bars, bistros and clubs.
The garments come in the essential white (body)/red (sleeves) colourway, plus three other contemporary combinations. Made from Belcoro yarns, they feature a slim, cotton/Lycra neckline, for performance that’s on a par with their good looks.
‘Layering’ is fundamental to the ‘urban look’. Fruit of the Loom’s Layered T picks up on this demand, offering a single garment that gives the impression of a short sleeve T worn over a long sleeve top. The contrast colour of the sewn-in under-sleeve and inner neck accentuate the effect – steel blue/ash is an especially popular choice. Belcoro yarns and Lycra in the rib crew neck ensure comfort, printability and performance.
For customers that prefer a solid-colour, more fitted T-shirt there is the Slim-Fit T that is made from 100% combed ringspun cotton for men, and a choice of four Lady-Fit T styles in heavyweight cotton/elastane, for women.
A suitably fashionable sweatshirt completes the ‘layered urban look’. Here, the Hooded Sweat continues to reign supreme, with Fruit of the Loom’s Heavy Hooded Sweat setting the benchmark. The garment’s 80/20 cotton/polyester fabric (340 gm/m2) provides exceptional comfort, and boasts a 100% ringspun cotton facing for enhanced wash and wear performance. A ribbed hem and cuffs complement the front pouch pocket and double fabric hood with cotton/Lycra for shape retention.
For a lighter weight alternative, there is the Hooded Sweat, or the athletics-style Zip Through Hooded Sweat, both in (260/280 gm/m2). The former is available in 15 contemporary colours, including Olive and Zinc; the latter, with its fashionable full-length YKK zip, is an enduring icon of street style.
If hoods are not your ‘thing’, then the raglan-sleeve Lady-Fit Sweat Jacket and matching men’s Sweat Jacket fit the bill perfectly. Both garments feature a full-length front zip, high neck, two jetted pockets, a herringbone back neck tape, and Fruit of the Loom’s ‘next generation’ fleece with cotton-rich facing. The Lady-Fit style adds flattering shaped side seams, plus self-fabric cuffs and waistband; the men’s style has ribbed cuffs with Lycra.
The Sweats are complemented by matching Jog Pants, (with elasticated or open hem), and the flattering Lady-Fit Jog Pants (with self-fabric waistband and open hem).
