Regatta hits the heady heights of four English summits
Walkers' efforts will benefit three worthy causes
Published:  01 September, 2010

A team from Regatta are set to scale the four highest peaks in the Lake District in just 24 hours. On September 11, the team will set off to scale Scarfell, Scarfell Pike, Helvellyn and Skiddaw.

Gill Russell, PR and marketing manager for Regatta comments: “We started training a few months ago as a team of mixed levels of fitness. Now after being on many training walks we are covering the miles and reaching the heights! On the day, we will also be walking with Berni and Anja, mountain leaders who run The Adventure Process, offering life and development coaching within a setting of adventurous outdoor experience – so we will be in safe hands!

“Although it’s quite daunting, we know it will be so rewarding. Even more so if we can raise some much needed funds for the some very worthy causes.”

In February, Delia Longley, the mother of the “Regatta Family for 2009” died in a car crash, leaving a devastated husband and three children. Her daughter India was in the car too and sustained injuries to her eye. Regatta has decided to support the two appeals nominated by Delia’s husband Darren, in her memory.

The Rocking Horse Appeal is a charity which helps make life better for very sick children in hospitals and care centres in Sussex and Surrey. India spent five days there after the accident.

The second charity is The Langa Township Appeal. The family visited the Langa Township in Cape Town while out on photo shoot with Regatta. They were touched by a community with a very strong spirit working to make things better for themselves, while living under very harsh conditions.

The funds raised will go towards projects involving children's health and education.

Mountain rescue teams in the Lakes will be there for the team if they need help. And for this reason, Regatta will be donating some of the funds raised to those teams.

If you would like to donate to the causes, please contact Gill Russell at grussell@regatta.com, a Virgingiving site is currently being set up.
