OBITUARY - Industry stalwart Arthur Gunn loses his battle with cancer
Published:  30 March, 2010

Those who have been involved with the embroidery industry for a few years may well know the name of Arthur Gunn who has sadly passed away after suffering for some time with cancer.

Arthur had been around sewing machines for a considerable part of his life and he brought his skills into embroidery for the last 15 or so years of his working life when he joined Geoffrey E Macpherson Ltd. He became an integral part of the technical workshop team which was responsible for training many young mechanics to a high skill level. As the workshop foreman he was not only responsible for training the new apprentices but he also oversaw the quality control for machines.

He was part of the team led by Roy Burton (now managing director of Your Embroidery Services Ltd) that brought PDI (pre delivery inspection) to the fore and made it an important part of the technical support process. Roy Burton said: “It was with great sadness that I learnt of Arthur’s death. I worked closely with him at Macphersons and we became good friends. He was a key part of the team and someone that could be relied on. His knowledge and skill levels were of the highest calibre and he was definitely one of the old school technicians. We all held him in very high esteem.”

Even after his retirement many of the processes that Arthur instigated, or helped to instigate, still continued and, indeed, are still being used today ensuring that customers receive the best possible service. Apart from his love for his family and of the industry, Arthur also had a passion for football and was an avid supporter of Nottingham Forest.

Arthur leaves a wife Elle and a son Steve.
