The Cockermouth-based sales and marketing office for Balmoral and Papini was devastated during the floods which hit the Cumbrian town at the end of November.
Mike Carden and Ian Pollard’s business, Rannerdale, was situated about 20 yards from the River Cocker in the centre of the town. “We kept an eye on the rising waters,” Mike told Printwear & Promotion, “and at around lunch time on the Thursday, we realised there was a good chance that the river would keep on rising.
“So we put our computers either in the car or up on the first floor. We would have moved more things, but our little wall of sand bags became overwhelmed, and the waters just kept on rising.
“We were still taking things out of the office when the water got above waist level and the desks started floating. That seemed like the time to get out.”
Mike have set up a temporary office near Cockermouth.
“We’re very grateful for the messages of support,” adds Mike. At least with ourselves it is just our office that is damaged; for a lot of people in and around Cockermouth, it has been much worse.”
