After 17 years' service, PenCarrie's warehouse manager, Alun Morgan, has retired. Paying tribute to Alun, Paul Persey, PenCarrie's founder and executive chairman said: "Alun helped shape the company from the earliest days, insisting on the highest standards in all aspects of warehouse operation and service to customers.
"His foresight, including his dedication to his staff and their training and advancement, means that these standards will live on. We all feel lucky to have had the experience of working with Alun and his contribution to the company and its future is beyond measure."
During his time, Alun managed the extraordinary growth of the company's warehousing operation. Originally the total stock holding was only 1,500 pieces in very basic premises. Today there are more than 2 million items worth over £10 million stored in a 100,000sq ft distribution centre at Exeter.
Alun masterminded three moves to new premises without any interruption to the delivery service to customers. And he researched and helped design the tailor-made warehouse systems in use today.
It was also Alun who worked alongside professional certification authorities to develop training programmes that would motivate staff and give them a defined career path within PenCarrie, thus retaining their expertise to the benefit of the company and customers alike.
John Mallett, Alun's deputy for eight years, succeeds him as warehouse manager.
