The Scottish textile industry is set for a major resurgence in demand for industrial workwear, claims the new owner of Livingston-based Drummond Textiles.
Graham Smith has more than 20 years experience working in textile industry, and with the recession taking the competitive edge off imported garments, he was looking for a garment manufacturer that could help provide a solution, "And I found to the answer right here in Scotland," he comments.
"Drummond seemed to be able to produce garments faster and to a higher quality than anybody else, and the staff had the right attitude to make this a success. So I purchased the company in 2008 and we've doubled in size during the past 12 months.
"Part of our success lies in the fact that we are located at Bizspace's Eucal Business Centre and the hands-on approach by centre manager, Keith Hudson, has helped us form a good relationship with our neighbours at the centre, who might otherwise have objected to the fact that we work seven days and week and often have to load trucks late into the evening. As our business has grown Bizspace has been able to provide with larger workspace to meet our needs."
Centre manager Keith Hudson said: "Drummond Textiles is typical of the small businesses that are continuing to expand in Scotland during the current financial climate by taking advantage of the flexibility we provide. This removes the headache of long term financial commitments, whilst allowing businesses greater freedom to upsize, downsize or even relocate to meet the demands of their market."
Graham Smith added: "We plan to capitalise on the weak Pound on overseas markets and help facilitate a shift back to UK-sourced solutions, which has got to be good news for local jobs."
