PENCARRIE
Plenty of opportunity in the baby and childrenswear sectors
Published:  07 April, 2009

PenCarrie highlights the huge sales potential that exists in the baby and children's wear sectors. Andrea Charteris, customer services manager for the company, comments, "Babywear is often required in quantity for on-pack promotions and loyaltybuilding giveaways in what is a highly competitive market. Nurseries also want quality clothing for the tinies in their care.

For the older age group, there is massive potential for sales of children's wear linked to schools (of course) and to children's activity clubs and holiday centres as well as major family-related events such as music festivals." Andrea also emphasises the need for good quality garments for all child-related promotional wear. "The clothing needs to be comfortable and it must wash and wear well. A good quality garment generally gives good value long-term; and it is why PenCarrie stocks only brands that are entirely dependable."

For the toddler to teenager group, the choices that PenCarrie offers in children's wear are extensive and many more new styles have been added for 2009. These come from Larkwood, Fruit of the Loom, Jerzees Schoolgear, Result, Skinni Minni and AWDis plus, in sportswear, Finden & Hales and Tombo Teamwear. Andrea highlights an important point, saying, "There are adult versions of nearly all the new children's wear styles, which means larger or much older children can be catered for, as can any adults accompanying the youngsters or simply attending the same event."

New styles of hoodies, fleeces, polos and tees all feature for 2009; and for the first time soft shell jackets are now also available for children aged three years and upwards.

Result's RS121B Classic Soft Shell Jacket and Jerzees Schoolgear's 140B Kids Soft Shell Jacket are windproof, showerproof and breathable and both have a microfleece inner layer for extra warmth. A different type of jacket, this time made from nylon taslon with PU coating, is the 510B Kids HydraPlus 2000 from Jerzees Schoolgear. This jacket is fully waterproof as well as breathable; and has many features including a rollaway hood, a double storm flap with rain channel and sculpted elbows. The jacket also has, as a safety feature, a reflective design on the chest pocket. Result and Jerzees Schoolgear also offer new fleece styles for children. The 8700B Kids Outdoor Fleece Jacket from Jerzees Schoolgear has a full zip; the brand's 8740B Kids Zip Neck Outdoor Fleece has a half zip. Both are made from a new kind of dense pile fleece which is especially good for children's clothing as the fabric weighs less and allows greater comfort without compromising warmth.
