"The big change is in using a European partner to make a stock school knitwear range for us, using our yarns," says Mike Carden, who, with Ian Pollard, runs Balmoral's sales and marketing from its office in the Lake District.

Balmoral now stock five shades in their NewTPA (Tumble-dry Premium Acrylic) school sweater range, all made in Eastern Europe.

The shades for the raglan-sleeve style are Mariner Blue, Vintage Port, Pine Green, Mid Grey and Black.

"Our NewTPA sweaters are made with a yarn specifically designed to have a soft handle, yet to be very hard wearing. They are also machine-washable and can be ironed or tumble-dried on cool. That is a combination few manufacturers can match."

 A new development is now the opportunity to mix and match between the two sources on bespoke styles, even offering a combination price so that bulk orders can come from off-shore and repeats from the UK, all at the same price. "Whether made in the UK or Europe, we supply quality garments and we set ourselves very high standards as regards on time delivery."

Balmoral also has a strong reputation in the supply of wool-blend sweaters for schoolwear. "We offer a wide range of yarns and weights in wool-blend - wool/acrylic and wool/nylon; with lightweight, medium-weight and heavyweight styles. We also have some great new developments under way, including cotton-rich yarn and girls' sweater styles," Mike says, "and we will be letting customers know about those during the next few months."

He added that the company has confidence that its range makes it one of the most flexible of knitwear manufacturers in terms of style, shade, yarn and weight of fabric.
