SLICK STITCH
Facing 2009 with optimism
Published:  02 February, 2009

Slick Stitch has become one of the first companies to in Europe to put Barudan's latest V series 18 head machines into operation.

Despite the economic downturn the company is expanding its total floor space by an additional 10,000 sq ft and will have more than 275 machine heads for its contract embroidery services. The firm is aiming for more continental business during 2009, after a surprising surge during the last year. 2008 saw 15% of all despatches head outside the UK.

During 2008 Slick Stitch was among the first to offer genuine stock traceability, offering customers quick and easy notification on stock receipts and despatches. It has also invested in state of the art barcoded WMS Warehouse Mangagement Systems. This allows customers to send orders directly to hand held scanners and allow "pickers" to begin the process almost immediately.

Because it is a realtime platform customers will be able to view stock status as it changes through a new secure online portal. Several of hte company's larger customers have alreday signed up to the service, recognising the benefit of having stock next to embroidery machines

The company plans are to eventually include all customer information (design, accounting and order data) through its online page. In terms of its green credentials, this has also been an excellent year for the firm with an 85% increase in waste recycling.

Another new service being offered is a "retail packing" line - which gives the ultimate finish to a decorated garment. The service includes high gloss polybags, kimble tagged info tickets and new crisp boxes - all of which ensures customers receive garments in pristine condition. The year also sees the commencement of a major new contract embroidering nearly a million garments over the year. This will require require the company not only to upgrade production capacity but also initiate higher and more frequent staff training modules, a doubling of our transport fleet and further system development allowing new (and existing) customers even quicker feedback on the progression of their orders.
