Bags2Keep has launched what is described as the totally green bag for life. The 100 per cent recyclable or biodegradable VertVivant range is made from either unbleached cotton calico, recycled cotton waste or fully certified organic cotton.
The company states the bags are ethically sourced, strong and reusable. The range includes promotional totes, carrier bags, shoppers and super sized shoppers.
Co-owner Rod Baker explained: "While we are a commercial business that aims to make profit, we also strive to minimise negative impacts on the environment. We consider ourselves a fair trade business, offering a fair price to our partners in the developing world. We have made several visits to India to ensure they have decent and ethical working practices."
Bags2Keep's main supplier for VertVivant is a Kolkata-based factory employing 120. The facility is ISO9001 certified, works to the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code standard and is applying for its Fair Trade licence. Rod has visited the factory to check the standards.
Rod added: "We know that many people, retail businesses, local authorities and charities share our ethos of cost effective bags sourced and made in the most eco aware manner possible that limit the strain on our resources, and we would encourage them to contact us to find out more about this new range."
