New bags stocked by PenCarrie for 2009 come in a variety of shapes and a multitude of colours. Some are highly innovative. There's a shopper made from recycled plastic bottles from Okarma; a high visibility backpack and messenger bag from RTY Workwear; and three sports bags from Finden & Hales that co-ordinate with their teamwear. The majority of new bags, however, including a selection of ‘Eco-Option' bags, come from the mainstream bag brand Quadra, its colourful counterpart BagBase and volume-promotions partner Westford Mill.
The new ‘Eco-Option' bags appear in all three brands' collections. PenCarrie expects them to sell particularly well "given that recycling and ethical issues are now part of the national psyche". There are four Eco-Option bags in the Quadra range (a Compact Reporter and a Messenger bag in 100% recycled polyester; plus a Gymsac and a Canvas Tote in 100% organic cotton). BagBase Eco-Options include a Fairtrade Canvas Shopper, plus a Backpack and a Tote in 100% recycled polyester. Westford Mill offers the Eco-Option Organic Cotton Shopper and Organic Cotton Sling Tote.
Hardwearing, sustainable jute bags are also in high demand and PenCarrie is stocking Westford Mill's two latest designs: the Jute Boutique Tote and the Jute Compact Tote. Nine new colour choices for the popular 100% cotton W101 Promo Shopper Tote, a favourite in 2008, are also available. Bright red, bright royal, chestnut, classic pink, French navy, lime, orange, surf blue and white, plus the original colours of natural and black, are all in stock in volume at PenCarrie, ready for next day delivery.
At BagBase, seven new designs swell this colour-focused range, which also favours flowing lines, curved sections and crisp detailing. New colours for 2009 are on-trend and include kiwi, taupe, rich chestnut, fresh surf blue, burgundy and sand. The new colours apply to many existing designs too, increasing the colour options available. For example, the popular BG10 Gymsac is now available in 36 hues. Fashionably aged and faded colours of vintage black and vintage stone are used for the new military-styled Vintage Canvas Messenger Bag, which is targeted at the student/youth market and expected to sell in volume. BagBase's new Premium Backpack, available in four colours, has even broader appeal.
PenCarrie has also selected all 10 new bags in the Quadra range to feature in its catalogue for 2009. Four are Eco-Option designs, as mentioned earlier. The remaining six designs, all smart, modern and functional, are the relaxed-look Canvas Compact Reporter and Messenger bags, both available in vintage black or vintage olive washed canvas; the Infant Backpack and School Backpack, designed to protect young spines; and for travellers, the Tungsten Airporter and Vessel Laptop Backpack.
