Be an exhibitionist!
PROMOTA chairman Rod Duncan explains why attending trade exhibitions and shows should be top of your list in 2009

Why is it that New Year's resolutions always seem to fall through, however much you try and stick to them? As we look forward to a new year why not look to setting yourself targets which will really help you and your business. At the top of this list really should be attending trade exhibitions. Attending a trade exhibition immediately sets your business up for the coming months, be this in terms of new business leads through networking, great promotional show offers or just helping your general understanding of the industry.

The start of a new year gives you the opportunity to evaluate the previous year and think about what you want to improve on in the months ahead. Whilst trading circumstances are still difficult and uncertain in some cases, it is important to do things which will enhance business. Attending trade exhibitions provide so many opportunities - miss them and you miss out! Exhibitions are a way of learning something new or sourcing innovative products to present to your clients.

Attending also introduces networking and business opportunities and exhibitions can be the place to make important contacts. With so many like minded people around you there will be plenty of room for discussions and the sharing of industry knowledge. You may even pick up key ideas from other exhibitors or visitors about driving your business forward in the New Year.

If you are a new member to a trade association, attending a members' only show helps you to understand how your trade association and exhibition works. You will have the opportunity to speak to other members and gauge their thoughts on the association and the show. Visually, exhibitions are always very exciting and you can pick up numerous creative ideas.
