Knitted jackets take off in health and hospitality sectors
Published:  01 December, 2008

Stunning knitted jackets from Balmoral Knitwear have taken off in the health and hospitality sectors.

"We've seen extraordinary growth in sales of ladies' knitted jackets," says Mike Carden of Balmoral. "They are now widely used in healthcare as well as for travel companies, hotels and offices. There are only a small number of knitting machines in the world which can make the same style, and we have had to invest in more machines to keep up with demand."

Balmoral brought in corporatewear designer Katrina Fineberg to design the range using the Scottish manufacturer's up-to-the-minute computer-aided knitting machines. The result is highly stylish, fine-knit garments with additional features more often seen on the high street than in corporatewear.

The jackets are designed with integral button-holes and therefore do not need additional strapping down the front. In addition the vents in the welt are knitted into the garment during manufacture; on older machines, unsightly overlocking would be needed to achieve the same result.

Balmoral has two stock styles. The Iona is the medium-length version, while the Melrose is the longer version.

Both garments are made in high quality, Teflon-treated Wool-blend yarn from Italy. The Teflon treatment is there partly for its resistance to stains but also because of its increased resistance to pilling, so that practicality is wedded to designer style.

In addition to the stock styles, Balmoral also regularly makes bespoke versions. Low minimums are available for special shades, or to add a bespoke trim colour.
