Hospitality wear: a buoyant sector
Published:  01 December, 2008

PenCarrie's sales of hospitality wear reflect this remarkably buoyant sector where gastro pubs, town centre coffee bars and in particular wine bar brasseries still appear to be doing good business.

PenCarrie stocks everything that the sector needs including kitchen staff and chef's wear (trousers, jackets, skull caps and scarves); plus informal and formal wear for waiting staff (combine a quality polo with a smart apron; or choose shirts, blouses worn with or without waistcoats and neck wear).

Most of the styles come from workwear specialists Premier, who make sure that their designs fit with current trends. PenCarrie also supplies, for front-of-house staff, some striking corporatewear tops from Kustom Kit; and from Russell Collection there are excellent tailored shirts and blouses, particularly from their new Tencel range.

Focusing on the hospitality wear available from Premier, PenCarrie starts by highlighting the Premier range of ‘Colours' aprons. The aprons come in several different designs to suit a variety of staff roles; and all come in a wide choice of colours. For example, three styles each available in the same 28 colours are Premier's PR150 ‘Colours' Bib Apron (a long-standing favourite), plus the more recently launched PR155 ‘Colours' 3-Pocket Apron and PR158 ‘Colours' Bar Apron.

Other designs introduced in 2008 are aimed specifically at the bar industry and include ‘roll sleeve' poplin shirts: the PR206 is for men and has a formal cut collar; PR306 is the ladies' equivalent and is a fitted blouse with a soft collar. Both have roll up sleeves with button fastening and come in black only.

Waistcoats add a professional touch to waiting staff uniforms and PenCarrie stocks Premier's PR620 Hospitality Waistcoat (for men) and the PR621, which is for women.

Scarves and ties from Premier provide another highly effective way of adding to the professional look of a uniform, hence their popularity for hotel reception staff.  As PenCarrie points out, these extras provide valuable add-on sales for decorators and are very easy to embroider. Here again, Premier provides huge choice in colours: the PR765 ‘Colours' Fashion Tie comes in 20 plain shades, as does the corresponding PR730 Business Scarf for women.

Back in the kitchen, Premier also recognises the changing trends in chefs' wear and new styles introduced earlier this year have proved a hit.  They include the PR656 Short Sleeve Chef's Jacket, a unisex design with 10 button wrap-over fastening and available in white only. Another new style, available in black only, is the PR655 Premier Cuisine Jacket. This requires the addition of Premier's PR652 studs which are available in seven colours, giving the opportunity for matching the studs to the colour chosen for the embroidery (of the chef's name or establishment).
